Proparq

Researchers, technicians, and managers of innovation with scientific production have yet another incentive to choose to work in Bahia. The Human Resources Development Program in Support of Research and Innovation in the Technological Park of Bahia – The ProPARQ Grant Program – is a tool helping Bahian companies and institutions to attract and retain qualified professionals. It is they who will enable the Technological Park of Bahia to develop innovative products and processes with high added value.

There are three types of grants in order to meet the different demands of the companies, and they vary according to experience, academic qualification, and capacity, in addition to the number of hours to be dedicated to the projects to which the grantee is linked. The amounts are up to R$ 14,000 monthly, and the goal is to provide approximately 100 scholarships.

This tool is a definitive differentiator for attracting companies, as they have the guarantee of being able to form a highly-qualified team with the best talents. After all, physical structure is important, but it is the people who will be responsible for the success of the venture, which is driven by its people’s knowledge and creative capacity.

By attracting and retaining outstanding professionals, the Technological Park also contributes to the growth of Bahia’s intellectual capital. Researchers who graduated from Bahian institutions are working in the main innovative centers of the world, so this will be a new incentive for them to apply their talents to the development of projects that will bring benefits to the State.

To receive a ProPARQ grant, the project must fulfill a series of basic requirements, such as:

  • Falling within one of the priority areas for the Technological Park of Bahia (Biotechnology and Health; Energy and Engineering; and Information and Communication Technology);
  • Having a clear link with the competitive strategies of the company installed in the Park;
  • Demonstrating possession of the material conditions to perform the work, whether with its own resources or having already raised them from financing sources;
  • Being able to demonstrate the effective use of personnel in research, development, and technological innovation projects performed in the Park.

The number of grants per project will be defined based on criteria such as total investment and size of the team involved, in addition to the degree of newness of the expected results, the complexity of the activities and their economic, social, and environmental impacts. Companies may also cover part of the grants in proportions that will be defined individually. This program’s funding currently comes from the Secretariat of Science, Technology, and Innovation of the State of Bahia as well as the Research Support Foundation, but other sources may be included in the future.
